Rock, Paper, Scissors Tournament

On March 6th our K-8 students and staff participated in the 4th annual rock, paper, scissors tournament. The students compete within their classroom and the overall winner advances to the tournament to represent their section. A total of 18 students (one from each section, two from each grade level) face off in the finals with Mr. Dunsbergen officiating. The overall winner of the K-8 tournament was John Patin from 3rd grade! Staff members were also given the opportunity to compete in an adult bracket. Mrs. Bowlin walked away as the victor for the staff tournament! Students and staff were able to watch the tournament from their classroom with Google Meet. Throughout the competition, students demonstrate a wide range of emotions (from nervousness to excitement to disappointment and everything in between) and are given the opportunity to find appropriate ways to respond to tough situations in a controlled and supportive environment. Congratulations, John and Mrs. Bowlin!

LSCEF book exchange

Our annual LSCEF Book Exchange was held on March 6th. Each K-5 student gets the opportunity to choose 2 new books and 3 gently used books to keep and take home. An astonishing 1,125 books were given out that day! Numerous students, LS families, and community members graciously donated all of the gently used books. The new books were purchased through the proceeds from the fall Scholastic Book Fair and from a monetary donation from Heather Engbers of Iowa Realty. LS Staff, high school students, and LSCEF board members assisted students in selecting their books. Thank you so much to the Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation for funding this event for our students every year as well as all the staff, volunteers, parents, and community members who help make this event a success!
