Course registration process underwaY

On Wednesday February 28, current 8-11 grade students will participate in our annual registration assembly. As part of this assembly, students rotate around to different classrooms to learn about 2024-25 course offerings from each of our teachers.

As the next step in the process, students have until Friday, March 8th to finalize their schedules and turn them into the high school office. Parents: please note that we do ask that you have signed off on these proposed schedules from the students as it is important that you have input into their schedule. The choices they make today will impact their schooling tomorrow.

Our goal is to have all schedules finalized before students leave for the summer, so please help us meet that goal by getting things turned in on time. As part of our ongoing efforts to streamline our registration process, we plan on utilizing a new tool called: Xello. You may hear your student talking about this resource in the next few weeks and months so I wanted you to know a bit about it ahead of time.

If you have questions about what your student turned in or the course registration process itself, please reach out to Mrs. O'Halloran at 641-594-4445 ext. 112 or by emailing her at ohalloran@lshawks.com

kids heart challenge

CELEBRATION! is the theme for the Kids Heart Challenge this year. Second, third, fourth, and fifth grade students are participating during PE and talking about heart healthy choices while getting our bodies moving. There is also a fundraising component for the American Heart Association which is celebrating its 100th birthday this year. Fundraising is an option and not a necessity to participate. Everyone is celebrating heart healthy choices for the month of February. If your family decides to raise funds for the AHA, they are due on February 26th.

100th Day celebration

Mrs. Van Wyk’s 2nd grade class celebrated the 100th day of school in a very exciting way!  On January 8th Mrs. Van Wyk made a post on Facebook asking people to send postcards from all 50 states in hopes of receiving 100 cards by the 100th day of school on February 7th. The Facebook post was shared dozens of times and so far postcards from 37 states and 6 countries have been sent to Mrs. Van Wyk’s class. The ISU football team and several L-S alumni are just a few of the 140 postcards that have arrived. A kindergarten class from Louisiana sent a package for Mrs. Van Wyk’s students and they also received a letter and pictures from a 4th grade class in Canada! The 2nd graders have learned so many fun and unique facts about all of the locations the postcards were sent from and have enjoyed reading the letters from so many different people. Postcards are still arriving and Mrs. Van Wyk and her class are anxious to see how many more they receive!

parent teacher conferences

We hope to see all elementary and middle school parents at Parent-Teacher Conferences, which will be held from 4:00PM to 8:00PM Monday, March 4th and Thursday, March 7th.

K-5 parents will have an assigned time to meet with their child's teacher.  Middle school parents are encouraged to visit any of the teachers in their classrooms to receive an update on how their child is doing this semester.

We truly appreciate opportunities to partner with our students' families and are looking forward to having these important conversations!

changing weather

The warmer temperatures we have been experiencing recently have us all excited for spring but the weather can change quickly. Colder weather can still make an appearance so please take some time to double check that your child has what is needed for a variety of weather conditions.  Snow pants, snow boots, hats, gloves, winter coats, etc. are still important winter gear that your child may need to comfortably enjoy recess. Also, writing your child's name on their winter gear helps identify any lost items.

Book exchange donations

The Lynnville-Sully Community Education Foundation will be holding its annual elementary book exchange Wednesday, March 6th.  This exciting event is one of the highlights of the year for both students and teachers! Students will get the opportunity to bring home a few new books as well as multiple gently used books.

Donations for gently used books for grades K-5 are still welcome! Books can be dropped off at the elementary/middle school office through the end of February.
